INSTRUCTIONS & SAFETY.

Dune sand candles are easy to use and provide a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to traditional candles. When used properly, they offer a safe and eco-friendly way to light your space. Here's how to create your customisable sand candles with Dune.

1. Pour

While fireproof containers are ideal, you can safely use other types too. Just be sure the container is spacious enough to keep the melted wax pool away from the edges, ensuring it doesn't overheat during use. For our wicks, we recommend a vessel with at least a 10cm width at its narrowest point. Always check that the container remains cool to the touch while the candle is burning, to guarantee safety and the best experience.

2. wick

Position the wick so that only about 0.5 cm of the tip is visible above the sand wax, just enough to easily light. Be sure to have at least 5 cm of sand around the wick and at least 2.5 cm of sand beneath it to ensure safe and even burning.

(OPTIONAL)

FRAGRANCE

Our Scent-Free candles are pure and naturally odourless, offering the perfect base for you to personalise with Dune’s range of compatible fragrance oils. Adding fragrance is simple—just follow our How to Scent guidelines. For a light aroma, mix 3–4 drops of fragrance oil into a small section of the sand wax; for a stronger scent, use 6–10 drops and blend thoroughly across the entire wax pot before placing the wick in the centre. Always scent your candle before lighting—never add oils to a burning wick, as oils are highly flammable.

Please note: Dune Candles are not designed to have a strong scent throw. They are created to provide a mild to medium fragrance experience, prioritising eco-friendliness and sustainability over intense scent output. Any modifications, including adding fragrance or colours, should be done responsibly. With Dune, you can craft a candle that’s beautifully subtle and completely unique.

4. Light

When placed properly, each wick can provide up to 12 hours of burn time.

restart

To restart your Dune candle, simply pull out the wick. You can either trim the wick and reuse it or replace it with a new wick, giving your candle a fresh start for another burn. It's an easy way to extend the life of your candle and keep it as good as new!

Give it a shake, re-wick, fragrance again and start.

Important sand Candle Safety Guidelines

At Dune Candles, safety is our top priority. While our candles are designed with innovative safety features, it's essential to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Please take the time to review these instructions carefully, as safe candle use is crucial for protecting both your home and loved ones.

1) Proper Candle Placement

Always place your Dune Candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials like curtains, paper, or fabrics. Keep your candle out of drafts or vents, as air movement can cause uneven burning or excessive flame. Never leave a burning candle unattended, especially in rooms with pets or children.

2) Container Size and Wick Positioning

For optimal safety, choose a container that is at least 10cm wide. Make sure the wick is positioned with at least 5 cm of sand wax surrounding it and 2.5cm of sand beneath the wick. This ensures the flame stays centred and prevents the container from overheating. The design also allows the candle to self-extinguish once the wick has burned down, reducing the risk of fire.

3) Supervise Your Candle

Even though Dune Candles are safer by design, it’s important to always supervise your candle while it's burning. Never allow the flame to come into contact with the sides or bottom of the container. If you see the candle burning unevenly or if the flame becomes too large, extinguish it immediately and adjust the wick or sand before relighting.

4) Keep Away from Children and Pets

Children and pets should never be left alone near a burning candle. Keep your candle in a safe, elevated position where curious hands or paws cannot reach it. If a candle is knocked over, the flame could spread to nearby flammable objects.

5) Avoid Overheating and Flammable Oils

While customisation is a key feature of Dune Candles, it’s important not to add oils or fragrances to a burning candle, as they can be highly flammable. Only add fragrance oils before lighting the candle, and make sure they are compatible with sand wax.

6) Non-Toxic, But Not Edible

While our sand wax is plant-based and non-toxic, it is not safe to ingest. Keep the sand out of reach of children and avoid getting it into your eyes, as it may cause irritation. If accidental ingestion or eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly and seek medical advice if needed.

7) Extinguishing Your Candle

Always extinguish your candle safely by using a snuffer or gently blowing it out. Make sure the wick has stopped glowing before leaving the room. Never use water to extinguish a candle, as this can cause the hot wax to splatter or the container to crack.

Remember: Fire safety is crucial. While Dune Candles include features that help minimise risk, it’s your responsibility to follow these guidelines to keep your home safe. Always review the safety instructions included with your candle and use it with care and awareness.
